HOW TO FLASH

[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash Venton Unibox HDE

The Venton Unibox HDE is a popular Enigma2 receiver that requires a specific folder structure to initiate the flashing process. Because it is an older HD model, it is particularly sensitive to the type of USB drive used.

Preparation

  1. USB Drive: Use a FAT32 formatted USB stick. It is highly recommended to use a small capacity (2GB, 4GB, or 8GB) USB 2.0 drive. Larger or newer USB 3.0 sticks often fail to be recognized by the bootloader.

  2. The Files: Extract your image zip file (e.g., OpenATV, OpenHDF). You must see a folder named venton and a subfolder inside it named hde.

  3. Root Path: Copy the venton folder to the root of your USB drive.

    • Structure: USB Root > venton > hde > (files: kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, etc.)

Flashing Steps

  1. Power Down: Turn off the receiver using the physical power switch at the back.

  2. Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the front USB port (located behind the front flap).

  3. Power On: Flip the rear power switch to ON.

  4. The Trigger: * Watch the front panel display. When it detects the USB, it will show “Update?” or “Confirm?”.

    • Immediately press the Power Button on the front panel (behind the flap) to start the flash.

  5. Monitoring: The display will show “Flashing” or show progress. This process takes about 3 to 5 minutes. Do not turn off the power during this time.

  6. Completion: Once finished, the display will show “Done” or “Success”, and the box will reboot automatically.

  7. Finalize: Remove the USB stick as soon as the box starts to reboot to avoid repeating the flash process.

Quick Troubleshooting

  • Box ignores the USB: Double-check that the folder is named exactly hde. If it still boots to the old image, try using the rear USB port.

  • The “Force” Shortcut: if you have trouble with the front button, go into the hde folder on your USB, find the file named noforce, and rename it to force. The receiver will then flash automatically upon power-up without needing a button press.
