HOW TO FLASH

[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash Technomate TM-Nano

To flash the original Technomate TM-Nano (the standard dual-tuner model, often simply called the Nano), you need to ensure your USB is set up with the specific folder naming required for this legacy hardware.

Preparation

  1. USB Drive: Use a FAT32 formatted USB stick. This model is very sensitive to USB compatibility; an older USB 2.0 drive (8GB or smaller) is highly recommended.

  2. The Files: Extract your chosen image (e.g., OpenATV, OpenViX). You should see a folder named technomate and a subfolder inside it named tmnano.

  3. Root Path: Copy the technomate folder to the root of your USB drive.

    • Structure: USB Root > technomate > tmnano > (files: kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, etc.)

    • Note: Ensure the folder is tmnano (all one word).

Flashing Steps

  1. Power Down: Turn off the receiver using the physical power switch at the back.

  2. Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the front USB port (behind the flap) or the rear USB port.

  3. Power On: Flip the rear power switch to ON.

  4. The Trigger:

    • Watch the front panel VFD display.

    • When it shows “Found Update” or “Update? Press OK”, immediately press the OK Button on the front panel of the receiver.

  5. Flashing Process: The display will show “Flashing”. This typically takes 3 to 5 minutes. Do not turn off the power during this time.

  6. Completion: Once the process is finished, the display will show “Success” or “Done”, and the box will reboot.

  7. Finalize: Remove the USB stick as soon as the reboot begins to avoid entering the update loop again.

Quick Troubleshooting

  • Box ignores the USB: Double-check that the subfolder is named tmnano. If it still won’t trigger, try a different, older USB 2.0 stick, as this model is notorious for failing to read newer “fast” drives during boot.

  • The “Force” Shortcut: If you have trouble with the front button, go into the tmnano folder on your PC, find the file named noforce, and rename it to force. The receiver will then flash automatically upon power-up without needing a button press.
