HOW TO FLASH

[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash jamesdonkey HD DUO

To flash the JamesDonkey HD DUO, you will use the standard Enigma2 flashing procedure for Broadcom (BCM) based receivers. Like most classic Enigma2 boxes, it requires a specific folder structure on a FAT32-formatted USB stick.

1. Preparation

  • USB Stick: Use a high-quality USB 2.0 stick (2GB to 8GB is ideal).

  • Format: The stick must be formatted to FAT32.

  • Firmware: Download the image for the JamesDonkey HD DUO (OpenATV and OpenPLi are the most common supported images for this model).

2. Folder Structure

The bootloader identifies the update files within a specific subfolder.

  1. Extract the downloaded firmware .zip file on your computer.

  2. You should see a folder named jamesdonkey.

  3. Copy the entire jamesdonkey folder to the root of your USB stick.

    • Path: USB:\jamesdonkey\hd_duo\

    • Contents: Inside the hd_duo folder, you should see files like kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, and force (or noforce).

3. The Flashing Process

  1. Power Off: Turn off the receiver using the power switch at the back.

  2. Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the rear USB port.

  3. Power On: Turn the back power switch to ON.

  4. Initiate Flash:

    • Watch the front panel display.

    • When the receiver detects the USB, it will display a message like “USB” or “UPDT”.

    • Quickly press the Power button on the front panel to confirm.

    • Note: if you renamed the noforce file to force, the process will start automatically without pressing a button.

  5. Wait: The display will show the progress. Do not turn off the power until it says “DONE” or reboots.

  6. Completion: The receiver will reboot automatically into the new image.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
