[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash AX MULTIBOX Twin
The AX Multibox Twin is a versatile 4K receiver powered by a HiSilicon chipset. Because it is a “Multibox,” it is designed specifically for multibooting, allowing you to have different images (like OpenATV, OpenHDF, etc.) stored in different internal slots.
Step 1: USB Preparation
-
Format: The USB drive must be formatted to FAT32. (HiSilicon boxes are notoriously picky; a small USB 2.0 drive is often the most reliable).
-
Folder Structure: When you unzip your image (e.g., OpenATV 7.x), you will see a folder named
ax. -
Target Path: Inside the
axfolder, there must be a subfolder namedmultiboxtwin.-
Path check:
USB_DRIVE:\ax\multiboxtwin\ -
Crucial Files: You should see
appcfg.bin,boot.img,fastboot.bin,kernel.bin,recovery.img, androotfs.tar.bz2.
-
Step 2: The Flashing Procedure
-
Power Down: Turn off the AX Multibox Twin using the physical power switch at the back.
-
Insert USB: Plug the drive into the side USB port.
-
Boot & Trigger:
-
Switch the rear power toggle to ON.
-
Immediately press and hold the Power Button on the front panel (or the Reset button depending on your hardware revision).
-
Once the front display shows “UPDT” or “Flsh,” release the button.
-
-
Wait for Progress: The receiver will begin the flash. You can monitor the progress on your TV screen via HDMI. This usually takes 3–5 minutes.
-
Reboot: Once the process is finished, the box will automatically reboot into the Setup Wizard. Remove the USB drive during the reboot.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
