[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash AX MULTIBOX SE

The AX Multibox SE (Special Edition) is the successor to the original Multibox series. It is powered by the same HiSilicon chipset, meaning it follows the “Recovery Menu” flashing method. This is much safer and more flexible than older “force-flash” methods because it lets you choose exactly which of the 4 multiboot slots you want to update.
Step 1: USB Preparation
-
Format: Use a high-quality USB stick formatted to FAT32.
-
Do Not Unzip: Unlike older models, for the “SE” and “Combo” versions, you usually keep the image in its .zip format.
-
File Placement: Simply copy the
.zipimage file (e.g.,openatv-7.4-axmultiboxse-xxx_usb.zip) directly to the root of the USB drive.
Step 2: Accessing the Recovery Menu
-
Power Down: Unplug the power lead from the back of the receiver.
-
Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the side or rear USB port.
-
The Trigger:
-
Press and hold the Power Button on your remote control.
-
While holding it, plug the power lead back into the receiver.
-
Keep holding the button until you see the “Maintenance Mode” or “Bootmenu” screen on your TV.
-
(Note: If the remote doesn’t trigger it, try holding the physical Reset button on the side/back while powering on).
-
Step 3: Flashing the Image
-
In the Recovery Menu, select “Flash local image”.
-
Select your USB drive from the list.
-
Select the .zip file you copied earlier.
-
Choose a Slot: You will see slots labeled Linux 1, Linux 2, Linux 3, or Linux 4.
-
Choose Linux 1 to overwrite your main image.
-
Choose another slot if you want to keep your current setup and just try a new image.
-
-
Flashing: The screen will show a progress bar. Once it hits 100%, it will say “Flashing completed.”
-
Boot: Go back to the main menu and select “Boot 1” (or whichever slot you just flashed) to start the new image.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
