[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash Sogno 8800HD

The Sogno 8800HD is a twin-tuner Enigma2 receiver based on the Broadcom chipset. It shares a similar architecture to some older VU+ or Technomate models, requiring a specific directory structure on a USB stick to trigger the flash.
Preparation
-
USB Drive: Use a FAT32 formatted USB stick. It is highly recommended to use an older USB 2.0 (8GB or less) drive, as the Sogno bootloader can be picky with newer USB 3.0 technology.
-
The Files: Extract your image zip file (e.g., OpenATV, OpenViX, or Egami). You should see a folder named
sognoand a subfolder inside it named8800hd. -
Root Path: Copy the
sognofolder to the root of your USB drive.-
Structure:
USB Root > sogno > 8800hd > (files: kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, etc.) -
Note: Ensure the folder is named
8800hd(no spaces).
-
Flashing Steps
-
Power Down: Turn off the receiver using the physical rocker switch at the back.
-
Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the front USB port (located behind the front flap).
-
Power On: Flip the rear power switch to ON.
-
The Trigger: * Watch the front panel VFD display.
-
When the display shows “Update? Press OK”, immediately press the OK Button on the front panel (behind the flap).
-
-
Flashing Process: The display will show “Flashing” or show a progress percentage. This typically takes 3 to 5 minutes. Do not turn off the power during this time.
-
Completion: Once finished, the display will show “Success” or “Done”, and the box will reboot automatically.
-
Finalize: Remove the USB stick during the reboot to prevent the receiver from detecting the flash files again on the next start.
Quick Troubleshooting
-
Box ignores the USB: Double-check the folder name
8800hd. If it still boots to the old image, try using the rear USB port. -
USB Compatibility: If both ports fail, try a different, older USB 2.0 stick. This is the most common reason for flashing failures on this model.
-
The “Force” Shortcut: If the front buttons are unresponsive, go into the
8800hdfolder on your USB, find the file namednoforce, and rename it toforce. The receiver will then flash automatically upon power-up without needing a button press.
