[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash Mutant HD66 SE
To flash the Mut@nt HD66 SE, you’ll use a USB recovery method very similar to other modern 4K HiSilicon-based receivers like the Octagon or Novaler models.
1. Preparation
-
USB Stick: A reliable, 8GB or smaller USB stick.
-
Format: Format the stick to FAT32.
-
Firmware: Download the image specifically for the HD66 SE.
-
Recovery: Look for
_recovery.emmc.zipfor a clean install. -
Multiboot: Look for
_mmc.zipfor adding to a slot.
-
2. Folder Structure
The Mut@nt bootloader looks for the mutant directory on the USB.
-
Extract the firmware zip file.
-
Copy the entire
mutantfolder to the root of your USB stick.-
Path:
USB:\mutant\hd66se\ -
Contents: Inside, you should see
usb_update.bin,boot.img, androotfs.tar.bz2.
-
3. The Flashing Process (Recovery Menu)
-
Power Off: Turn off the power using the back switch.
-
Insert USB: Plug the stick into the side USB 3.0 port.
-
Enter Recovery:
-
Press and hold the Power button on the front panel.
-
While holding it, flip the back power switch to ON.
-
Continue holding until the Recovery Menu appears on your TV screen.
-
-
Select Flash: Use the remote to navigate to “Flash Recovery Image” (for emmc) or “USB Multiboot Image Upgrade” (for mmc slot updates).
-
Confirm: Select the file and press OK. The display will show “UPDT”, and the receiver will reboot automatically when the process is 100% complete.
Pro-Tip for enigma2.net
The “SE” version of the HD66 is a refreshed model, and its folder name hd66se is crucial. If you use a folder named just hd66, the bootloader will ignore it. This is a common mistake users make when following older guides!
