[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash AX 4K HD51

The AX 4K HD51 is a legendary Broadcom-based receiver. It was one of the first to popularized the 4-slot multiboot system. Unlike the HiSilicon-based Multiboxes, the HD51 uses a standard “Power-on-trigger” for USB flashing.
Step 1: USB Preparation
-
Format: Use a high-quality USB 2.0 or 3.0 stick formatted to FAT32.
-
Folder Structure: Unzip your image (e.g., OpenATV 7.x). You will see a folder named
hd51. -
Target Path: The
hd51folder must be in the root of the USB drive.-
Path check:
USB_DRIVE:\hd51\ -
Files: Ensure it contains
kernel.bin,rootfs.tar.bz2,disk.img, andimageversion.
-
Step 2: The Flashing Procedure
-
Full Power Off: Switch off the receiver using the physical power switch at the back.
-
Insert USB: Plug the drive into the front USB port (behind the flap).
-
Boot & Trigger:
-
Reach around the front and press and hold the Power Button.
-
While holding it, flip the rear power switch to ON.
-
Watch the front panel display. When it shows “Flashing” or “Updating,” you can release the Power Button.
-
-
Wait for Progress: The display will show the progress. It typically takes 2–4 minutes. Do not interrupt the power.
-
Reboot: Once finished, the box will reboot into the Setup Wizard. Remove the USB drive during the reboot to prevent a loop.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
