HOW TO FLASH

[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash AMIKO Viper TWIN

The Amiko Viper TWIN is a popular Mipsel-based receiver known for its dual-tuner capability and reliable performance. Because it is an older generation model, it uses the classic folder-triggered bootloader method rather than the modern recovery menus found on 4K boxes.

Step 1: USB Preparation

  • Format: The USB drive must be formatted to FAT32. Use a small USB 2.0 stick (4GB or 8GB is best) as older bootloaders can struggle with large USB 3.0 drives.

  • Folder Structure: When you extract your image (e.g., OpenATV or OpenHDF), you will see a folder named amiko.

  • Target Path: Inside the amiko folder, there must be a subfolder named viper-twin.

    • Path check: USB_DRIVE:\amiko\viper-twin\

    • Files: Ensure it contains kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, and imageversion.

Step 2: The Flashing Procedure

  1. Full Power Off: Shut down the receiver and flip the physical power switch at the back to OFF.

  2. Insert USB: Plug the prepared USB stick into the USB port (the rear port is generally more stable for flashing).

  3. Boot & Trigger:

    • Switch the rear power toggle to ON.

    • Immediately watch the front panel display.

    • As soon as it shows “USB” or “UPDT”, quickly press the Power/OK button on the front panel.

  4. Wait for Progress: The display will cycle through flashing stages. This takes about 3–5 minutes. Do not interrupt the power.

  5. Finish: When the display shows “Success” or “Reboot”, the box will restart. Remove the USB drive during the reboot to avoid starting the process again.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
