[REVIEW] Vimastec VS1000

The Vimastec VS1000 is the compact, highly efficient “little brother” to the 4K VS1500. It is a dedicated Full HD 1080p receiver that targets the budget-conscious Enigma2 user who wants a hidden, clutter-free setup without sacrificing the power of a Linux-based OS.

## Full Review: Vimastec VS1000 HD

The VS1000 is designed for the “invisible” setup. While many Enigma2 boxes are designed to sit prominently on a shelf, the VS1000 is small enough to be mounted behind a television, effectively turning any screen into a smart Linux-powered satellite hub.

## 1. Design & Stealth Features

The physical footprint of the VS1000 is its most defining characteristic.

  • Wall Mount Support: The unit includes a dedicated wall mount bracket in the box, allowing it to be clipped to the back of a TV or onto a wall.

  • External IR Eye: Because the box is meant to be hidden, it comes with an External Infrared (IR) Sensor cable. You can tuck the receiver away and just place the tiny sensor at the edge of your TV to receive remote commands.

  • Power: Uses a standard 12V external power supply, which keeps the heat away from the main unit.

## 2. Core Hardware & Performance

For a budget HD box, the VS1000 remains surprisingly snappy thanks to its optimized Linux drivers.

  • Processor: It runs on a MIPS-based CPU optimized for Full HD. While it lacks the raw DMIPS of its 4K siblings, it handles standard Enigma2 tasks like EPG importing and channel switching with ease.

  • Resolution: Supports up to 1080p Full HD. It does not support 4K UHD, but it provides excellent color reproduction for standard satellite and cable broadcasts.

  • Memory/Flash: Like many in its class, it features 512MB RAM and enough Flash to comfortably house a clean Enigma2 image like OpenPLi or OpenATV.

## 3. Software Support

Vimastec has made sure the VS1000 is not left behind in the software department.

  • OE-Alliance Support: It has official, nightly image support from the major teams. OpenPLi (Scarthgap and beyond) provides direct downloads for this specific machine.

  • IPTV Integration: It handles IPTV streams via XStreamity or Jedi Maker remarkably well for an HD box, making it a viable alternative to generic Android sticks for those who prefer the Enigma2 interface.

## 4. Connectivity

Despite the small size, the VS1000 doesn’t skimp on the essentials:

  • Tuners: Standard DVB-S2 (Satellite) tuner.

  • USB Ports: Features 2x USB 2.0 ports (usually one on the side and one on the rear) for recording or WiFi dongles.

  • Networking: 10/100 Ethernet port for stable internet and local network streaming.

  • AV Output: Includes both HDMI and an AV Jack (for older analog TVs).

## Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Ultra-Compact: One of the best boxes for “hidden” installations. 1080p Only: No 4K or H.265 (HEVC) hardware support.
IR Extender: Included in the box for easy remote control when hidden. Limited Flash: Requires a USB stick if you want to use heavy picon sets.
Price: Extremely affordable entry point into Enigma2. WiFi: Requires an external USB adapter.
Mounting: Comes with a wall/TV bracket included. No CI Slot: Usually limited to a single card reader.

## Final Verdict

The Vimastec VS1000 is the ultimate “utility” box. It isn’t meant to be the centerpiece of a home cinema, but it is the perfect solution for a kitchen, bedroom, or kids’ room where space is at a premium.
