[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash Protek 9900 LX

To flash the Protek 9900 LX, the process remains consistent with the LX series, utilizing a Broadcom-based bootloader. Success depends entirely on the correct folder hierarchy on your USB drive.
Preparation
-
USB Drive: Use a USB 2.0 stick (ideally 8GB or smaller) formatted to FAT32.
-
Download Image: Ensure the firmware is specifically for the Protek 9900 LX.
-
Extract Files: Unzip the file on your PC. You will see a folder named
protek. -
Copy to USB: Transfer the entire
protekfolder to the root of the USB stick.-
Structure:
USB Stick -> protek -> 9900lx -> (image files: kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, etc.).
-
The Flashing Process
-
Power Down: Turn off the receiver using the physical power switch at the rear.
-
Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the rear USB port.
-
Power On: Flip the rear power switch to ON.
-
Initiate Flash:
-
Watch the front panel display.
-
When the prompt “Update?” or “Press OK” appears, immediately press the Standby/Power button on the front panel.
-
-
Wait: The display will show “Flashing” or “Loading”. Do not interrupt the power during this time.
-
Complete: The box will reboot automatically. When the setup wizard appears on your TV, the flash is successful.
Quick Troubleshooting
-
Folder Name: Double-check that the subfolder is exactly
9900lx. If the files are loose in theprotekfolder, the box will not find them. -
Automatic Flash (Force): If the front button is unresponsive, open the
9900lxfolder on your USB, find the filenoforce, and rename it toforce. This will automate the process upon startup. -
USB Pickiness: Older Broadcom receivers are notoriously picky about USB sticks. If the box boots to its old image, try an older, slower USB 2.0 drive.
