HOW TO FLASH

[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash Protek 9911 LX

To flash the Protek 9911 LX, you’ll follow a process very similar to the 9920 LX. This receiver relies on a Broadcom chipset and requires a specific folder structure to initiate the bootloader sequence.

Preparation

  1. USB Drive: Use a high-quality USB 2.0 stick (8GB or smaller is recommended) formatted to FAT32.

  2. Download Image: Ensure you have the firmware specifically built for the Protek 9911 LX (e.g., OpenATV or OpenHDF).

  3. Extract Files: Unzip the archive on your computer. You will see a folder named protek.

  4. Copy to USB: Place the entire protek folder in the root of your USB drive.

    • Structure: USB Stick -> protek -> 9911lx -> (image files: kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, etc.).

The Flashing Process

  1. Power Down: Turn off the receiver using the physical power switch at the rear.

  2. Insert USB: Plug the USB stick into the rear USB port.

  3. Power On: Flip the rear power switch to ON.

  4. Initiate Flash:

    • Watch the front panel display.

    • When the prompt “Update?” or “Press OK” appears, immediately press the Standby/Power button on the front panel (or the OK button if available behind the flap).

  5. Wait: The display will indicate progress (e.g., “Flashing” or “Loading”). Do not turn off the power until the process is 100% complete.

  6. Complete: The receiver will reboot automatically. Once the setup wizard appears on your TV, the flash is finished and you can remove the USB.

Quick Tips

  • Folder Name: Double-check that the subfolder is exactly 9911lx. The bootloader is programmed to ignore any other naming convention.

  • The “Force” Method: If you cannot trigger the update with the front button, open the 9911lx folder on your USB, find the file named noforce, and rename it to force. This will make the box flash automatically upon power-up.

  • Sensitivity: Older Enigma2 boxes like the 9911 LX can be sensitive to USB stick brands. If the flash doesn’t start, try an older, slower USB 2.0 drive.
