[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash AX MULTIBOX Combo

The AX Multibox Combo is a 4K UHD receiver that, like the “SE” and “Twin” models, is powered by a HiSilicon chipset. It uses the “Maintenance Mode” (Recovery) system, which is very user-friendly because it allows you to manage up to 4 different images (multiboot) without risk.

Step 1: USB Preparation

  • Format: Use a high-quality USB stick formatted to FAT32.

  • The File: Do not unzip the image. Download the specific “recovery” or “mmc” zip file (e.g., openatv-7.4-axmultibox-2026xxxx_usb.zip).

  • Placement: Copy the .zip file directly to the root directory of your USB drive.

Step 2: Accessing the Boot Menu (Maintenance Mode)

There are two ways to enter the flashing menu:

Method A (The Button Trick):

  1. Turn off the power using the rear switch.

  2. Insert the USB into the side port.

  3. Press and hold the Power Button on the front panel (or the Reset button).

  4. Flip the rear power switch to ON while still holding the button.

  5. Release the button once the “Bootmenu” appears on your TV screen.

Method B (Software Trigger):

If you already have an image running (like OpenATV), go to Menu > Standby/Restart > Multiboot Recovery to reboot directly into this menu.

Step 3: Flashing the Image

  1. In the recovery menu, select “Flash local image”.

  2. Navigate to your USB drive and select the .zip file.

  3. Select a Slot: You will see slots 1 through 4.

    • Slot 1: Your primary image.

    • Slots 2-4: Use these if you want to keep your current image and just test a new one.

  4. Confirm the flash. The progress bar will appear on the screen.

  5. Reboot: Once finished, select “Boot” and choose the slot you just flashed. Remove the USB drive during the reboot.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
