HOW TO FLASH

[HOW TO FLASH] how to flash AMIKO Viper Combo HDD

The Amiko Viper Combo HDD is a unique Mipsel-based receiver that includes a dedicated internal bay for a 2.5″ hard drive. Because it uses the older Mipsel architecture (like the Slim and Twin), it follows the folder-naming trigger method for flashing.

Step 1: USB Preparation

  • Format: The USB stick must be formatted to FAT32. For Mipsel boxes, a smaller, older USB 2.0 drive (4GB or 8GB) is often more reliable than a modern USB 3.0/3.1 drive.

  • Folder Structure: When you extract your image (OpenATV, PurE2, etc.), you will see a folder named amiko.

  • Target Path: Inside the amiko folder, there must be a subfolder named viper-combo-hdd.

    • Path check: USB_DRIVE:\amiko\viper-combo-hdd\

  • Files: Ensure the folder contains kernel.bin, rootfs.bin, and imageversion.

Step 2: The Flashing Procedure

  1. Full Power Off: Flip the physical power switch at the back of the receiver to OFF.

  2. Insert USB: Plug the prepared USB stick into one of the USB ports (the rear port is typically recommended for flashing).

  3. The Trigger:

    • Switch the rear power toggle to ON.

    • Immediately watch the front panel display.

    • As soon as the display shows “USB” or “UPDT”, quickly press the Power/OK button on the front panel.

  4. Wait for Progress: The display will cycle through the flashing stages. This takes about 3–5 minutes. Do not interrupt the power during this process.

  5. Finish: Once the display shows “Success” or the box reboots, remove the USB drive to prevent it from entering a flash loop.

The flashing process should take approximately two to four minutes to complete, while the receiver
is being flashed it is vitally important that you DO NOT power the receiver down for any reason as
this can cause serious and or permanent damage.
